Stage 1 teaches the whole I Wanna Test The Game walkthrough contract: double jump, timing pads, edge stands, and banking purple saves before the next gap.

| Pad / gap type | What to do |
|---|---|
| Early short lava gaps | Double jump — do not stretch a single hop |
| Fast bounce pad | Land and jump again immediately — hesitation drops you |
| Wait / timing pad | Pause for the safe window; rushing is a free death |
| Any purple station | Crouch-save before the next hard screen |
| After a new death pattern | Retry until the segment is boring, then move on |
Some Stage 1 platforms want a quick bounce; others punish early movement. If a death felt “unfair,” ask which rule you broke before blaming RNG.
Standing near the lip clears lava without overshooting into the next trap. Center stands feel safe and then strand you mid-gap.
Once Lava Jumps is automatic, Stage 2 adds returning ground spikes and laser timing — keep crouch-save discipline from how to save.
Stage 2 (Lava Checkers) is the classic “how do I beat the laser / spikes?” wall. Checkerboard lava plus a ground spike that comes back — dodge twice.

Community clears agree: the spike returns. Landing the first hop and standing still is how most runners die after “I already dodged it.”
Treat laser timing like any other memorize trap — watch the cycle once, Retry, then commit. Do not invent Shift Lock aim; free-cam plus double jump is the kit.
With checkers stable, Stage 3 is where disappearing stairs and optional XP enemies start mattering for later shop upgrades.
Stage 3 is the first “difficult stuff” room for many players: disappearing stairs / waves, edge jumps, and Obby Killers you can optionally farm.
| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| Stair / platform about to vanish | Jump from the edge, not the center |
| Long gap after a checkpoint | Commit a far jump — short hops drop into lava |
| Optional enemies nearby | Kill when safe for Souls / XP toward Level 2 gun |
| Enemies turn back after distance | Stay consistent; do not chase mid-jump |
| Purple station mid-route | Crouch-save before the next wave |
| Dropping stairs / crush timing | Count the cycle (community tip: run after a five-count on some waves) |
Jumping from the middle of a vanishing stair is the death that feels like a glitch. Hug the lip, jump as far as you can, and Retry until the rhythm is muscle memory.
You can skip some enemies once you are consistent, but early kills help afford the Level 2 pistol at the red-pipe shop. That upgrade pays off on Moving Platform shootouts and Sagat.
Next is Stage 4 — moving platforms plus enemies you should clear before you press the wrong button.
Stage 4 mixes moving platforms, shootable enemies, and troll buttons. Later builds may also reference dungeon-style Stage 4 updates — still treat movement + shooting as one screen.
| Beat | Do this |
|---|---|
| Before shooting a button | Kill the nearby enemy first if he can interrupt the jump |
| Charged pistol shots | Jump → shoot → wait his shot → jump-shoot again (about three clean hits) |
| Onto the moving platform | Land where the enemy stood, then double jump immediately |
| Three wall / lava-wall rhythm | Count a 1-2-3 cadence; wrong timing spawns a lava wall kill |
| Invisible / hard-to-see pad | Commit a clean double jump off the last solid platform |
| Rocketeers / fence cover | Stand so the railing blocks rockets while your gun still lines up |
If you open the button or leap early, the enemy still fires while you are mid-air. Three patient shots on solid ground is faster than ten Retries from a skipped crouch-save.
Inch to the checkpoint with fence / railing cover. Get the angle where you can shoot but your body is blocked — then finish the big target before collecting Souls.
Stage 5 Maze of Doom is next; bank another save and decide whether you still have enough XP for Level 3 before Sagat.

Stage 5 is maze navigation, wrong turns, and surprise hits before the boss arena. Early versions had route quirks — expect Beta bugs and Retry through them.
Paths can feel wrong on purpose. Treat dead ends as information: crouch-save, Retry, and try the alternate branch instead of soft-resetting the whole Beta Test.
Community full clears call out Ball Monster and related glitches on some versions. If a threat behaves oddly, Retry and document the safe lane — do not invent a Shift Lock solution.
Before you open Stage 6, run the shop / Souls check below so Sagat is not a soft-lock of under-leveled guns.
How to beat I Wanna Test The Game is not only jumps — it is also Souls timing. Red Mario pipes hide the shop; crouch to enter and spend before the boss.
| Goal | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Level 2 pistol | After Stage 3 optional kills / first shop | Makes Stage 4 shootouts and later enemies safer |
| Level 3 pistol | Low-death Maze / pre-boss shop if you can afford it | Best common prep for Sagat DPS |
| Skip fancy guns first | If Souls are tight | Pistol upgrades beat random toys for the main clear |
| Third Eye | Only after Sagat if you want the secret route | Unlocks optional secret boss — not required for the Beta clear |
| Souls farm | Safe enemy packs on Stages 3–5 | See souls guide and weapons |
Heavy deaths on Stage 4–5 often mean you cannot afford Level 3. That is annoying, not game-over — Level 2 plus clean parry still clears Sagat; Level 3 just shortens the fight.
Visit the pipe when you have Souls and a nearby save. Buying mid-panic without a crouch-save wastes the upgrade if you die on the walk back.
Ready for Stage 6? The next section only points you into the arena — full patterns live on the Sagat page.
Stage 6 is Vs. Sagat — the main Beta Test boss. This walkthrough stops at the door on purpose so patterns stay on one page.
| Bring this | Why |
|---|---|
| Upgraded pistol (Level 2–3) | Main DPS for the fight |
| Crouch-parry timing | Fireballs / some Sanic-style hits — not a held block |
| Jump / double jump read | Uppercut cannot be parried — jump over |
| Last purple save before the arena | Retry into patterns without replaying Maze |
| Full pattern notes | Sagat boss page |
Fireballs: crouch at the last moment. Continuous rush into uppercut: jump early. Knee / short stop: edge stand, then hop to the next block when he crosses overhead. Spam crouch was patched — one clean press beats panic holds.
Winner / ending confirms the Beta clear badge path. Optional secret boss Zenithega needs Third Eye from the shop — separate from this Stages 1–5 route.

Clear Stages 1–5 with crouch-saves and Retries, upgrade your pistol at red-pipe shops, then beat Sagat on Stage 6. Use this walkthrough for traps; use the Sagat boss page for patterns.
Stage 1 — Lava Jumps: lava bars and early double-jump / timing pads.
The spike returns a second time. Dodge twice and use the wall as a timing marker.
Red Mario-style pipes — crouch to enter. Buy pistol upgrades with Souls; details on the shop and souls guide pages.
No, but low-death runs that afford Level 3 make Sagat much shorter. Level 2 plus solid parry still works.
Yes — optional secret boss (Zenithega) after buying Third Eye. Not required for the main Beta clear.
Crouch at purple save stations, then Retry with R. Full detail: how to save.
Next: Sagat boss. Keep parry guide open for fireball timing.
